Carr Workplaces, a pioneer and leader in the co-working industry, will lay a welcome mat for businesses, startups, entrepreneurs and innovators in the Convergence Center for Innovation and Collaboration in Discovery Park District on the west side the Purdue University campus.
The new co-working hub will occupy about 20,000 square feet of space in the five-story Convergence building, where businesses can plant their flag within walking distance of Purdue University’s research centers, allowing companies to be in direct contact with more than 2,000 faculty and more than 43,000 undergraduate and graduate students at the university.
Carr Workplaces at Convergence will feature more than 80 private offices, a drop-in workspace and meeting rooms with access for students, administrators and faculty. In addition to the co-working center, Carr Workplaces also will provide support services for tenants on all five floors of the Convergence building.
Austin Flajser, president of Carr Workplaces, said the Convergence Center provides the quintessential location for the company’s first foray into partnering with universities.
“Carr Workplaces has a long history of providing concierge-level service to entrepreneurs, so it’s natural that we support innovation in a university environment,” he said. “With Purdue’s international reputation for research and entrepreneurship, it’s a perfect fit for our company.”
David Broecker, chief innovation and collaboration officer for Purdue Research Foundation, said Carr Workplaces provides a key link for the Purdue entrepreneurial community.
“Providing a variety of space and placemaking alternatives is an important element to attracting a vibrant mix of companies and startups as well as individual entrepreneurs and innovators,” he said.
Convergence Center for Innovation and Collaboration is at the Purdue Industrial Roundtable 2019, which is recognized as the largest student-run job fair in the nation, attracting over 400 companies and 12,000 engineering, science and technology students each year. The event takes place on the Purdue Memorial Mall on the West Lafayette campus and concludes Wednesday (Sept. 11).
Convergence is set to open in 2020 at 101 Foundry Drive in West Lafayette, Indiana, and will serve as the entryway to the $1 billion-plus Discovery Park District, designed to provide an exceptional environment for educational, economic, cultural, community and real estate development.
