About the district and PRF
The district is a giant leap in placemaking, home to the world’s most creative, innovative minds and businesses. The district is managed by the Purdue Research Foundation, which helps to advance Purdue in the quest for discovery, learning, and engagement.
district highlights
2001
The district is established with donations from the Lilly Endowment and the state of Indiana.
2004
The Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship is the first building opened in the district.
2014
The district surpasses $1B in research expenditures, laboratory and equipment investment, and endowments.
2016
The $120M State Street Project breaks ground, the catalyst for the district’s creation.
Purdue Research Foundation announces the $1B long-term plan and vision to develop the Discovery Park District at Purdue.
Rolls-Royce is the first business to arrive in the district, with additional expansions in the district through the years.
2018
The 835-bed Aspire at Discovery Park apartment complex was announced to serve Purdue University students.
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories breaks ground in the district, announcing 300-plus new jobs in the district.
Saab announces plans to locate a U.S. manufacturing operation in West Lafayette to support production of T-X jet trainers.
2020
The Convergence Center for Innovation and Collaboration opens as private industry’s front door to Purdue.
2021
First Provenance unit ready for move-in.
2022
Grand Opening of Continuum at Discovery Park District.
2023
A $10M roadway expansion project in the district begins, offering expanded opportunities for businesses entering the park.
Today
The district’s master plan is on budget and ahead of schedule, with an ever-expanding list of partnerships and initiatives.
2025
New restaurant The Lawrence prepares for an early 2026 opening in the newly renovated historic Beck Barn, located in Squirrel Park.
The $11.8M Amelia Earhart Terminal is completed in August, expanding access to convenient air travel for Greater Lafayette.
3rd & West, a new 5-story, 984-bed community in the district, opens for Purdue student housing in early August.
